    Hi Cristie,

    A couple of questions:

Is OS Maps still the mandated tool for creating routes and generating .gpx files for the SW platform? If so, are you supplying the 1-month codes for this Sprint?

Personally, I prefer Outdooractive for its superior 'snapping' scope and already have a Pro subscription (with OS 1:50000 & 1:25000 map data). Is it OK to use this?

    Kind regards,

    Phil Ellwood

    Hello Phil,

Thanks for checking.  No, any software that can create a gpx file is welcome.  Please go ahead with Outdooractive.

    Best wishes,
    Cristie

I’m looking at creating a route from Kingscote to Tetbury and have discovered that it’s a darn sight harder than creating a route N-S from Nailsworth to Kingscote.

Kintet will not be very direct I’m afraid. It would be easiest just to walk down the A4135!

in the end I decided on Chavenage Lane. I suspect that there’ll be more than one option for this route.

Sorry Christie, I deleted my other post when I saw that you had already created this one!

No problem.  Thanks Lynn and thanks for creating Kingscote to Tetbury even if it's a bit problematic.  It will be great to have a starter route.

I've got to say that was great fun, and a heady reminder of 3 years ago! The level of challenge on this got progressively easier as I moved from the NEC (somewhere that it is designed for people to walk "around" but not "to"), to Calstock (a settlement on a river with no pedestrian bridges in an area with plenty of rivers but very few bridges), to Grateley (military bases to work around but plenty of paths and quiet roads), to my last route between Wootton Rivers and Great Bedwyn (two places connected by canal towpath with an alternative via footpaths linking villlages which are 5km apart). It definitely helped making plotting decisions this time round, having actually been out in the field reviewing routes.

Did others have issues with Calstock? It's a bit of a dead-end with the train the only way out to the S or E. Tavistock to Calstock only possible in my head via Gunnislake! First part of the walk is well reviewed by the looks of Tavi to Callington. https://beta.slowways.org/Route/Caltav/1284#reviews . Will submit what I've got. Think it's the most plausible route option!

Yes! Some of the most indirect routes I've ever designed! Gunnislake is the nearest crossing of the Tamar. Callington to Calstock was the most straightforward. Saltash to Calstock zigzagged more than I would have liked but that was partially due to privately owned forest. Calstock to Yelverton went via Gunnislake and the southern edge of Tavistock! A big inverted horseshoe clocking in at 18.58km (under 9km as the crow flies!)

I enjoyed the exercise. A couple of the ones I created were rather indirect too, but Bircotes and Marr also have rather limited non-main road options.

Oh wow, I also have that three years ago feeling and reminder of the fun of route creation.  I found the reviews super helpful this time around too.  Thank you for sticking with the slightly trickier ones.  Newmachar to Balmedie was my challenging one, lots of single track road walking and I couldn't tell if they will be free of traffic.  Aberdeen to Balmedie and Balmedie to Newburgh though I think will be lovely, lots of beach walking.

Thank you all so much.  The routes are now with the designer who is creating the maps :)

Any news on when the maps will be sent out?

    Hello David,
Thanks for the nudge.  Now that we have the new versions I've just sent the orders over.  Will update here if I get a time of when they will be sent but would expect it to be this week or next.

Whilst I'm writing I also wanted to let everyone know that we've hit a slight technical issue with updating the network on the site.  It is sortable but that's why there's a delay and your wonderful new routes are not on there yet.

    Best wishes,
    Cristie
