Slow Ways podcast/audio tours
My key interest for getting involved in this project was because I love walking, but as someone who runs an company creating audio tours for countryside and heritage locations (audiotrails.co.uk) I've always had in the back of my mind that it would be lovely to have a Clare Balding-style Ramblings podcast for (at least) some of the Slow Ways.
I imagine each one lasting 45-60 minutes and pointing out some of the key highlights, stories and hidden gems along each route. It would be a great way to promote the Slow Ways and something lovely to listen to before, as you walk/start the route, or even as a reminder of your walk after completing it. I often listen to podcasts when I walk, but having one about the route I am walking would be really special.
I think this would probably work better than having GPS-triggered audio stops along each route linked to key locations (something I also do) because a) this would be far more involved and b) a podcast approach is a bit more flexible in terms of how you can engage with it. With up to 7000 routes to cover that is potentially a lot of audio!
I'd be happy to pilot a few, especially if I could interview people en-route who know a Slow Way well. Maybe someone with a musical slant could compose a short piece of music for the theme tune!
What do you think?

That sounds interesting. I was thinking it would be nice to add comments to Slowways as they are tested - tricky bits, special viewpoints or even the best cafe for a break, but audio takes it a step further.
