If you input Abingdon-on-Thames it goes to Abingdon

That may be so, but the original point stands - it isn’t an unreasonable search

This is a problem I tried reporting via the spreadsheet but haven't had a reply. If you search for "Shenstone" you get a list of walks near Shenstone, Worcestershire (not a Slow Ways node) as opposed to routes from Shenstone, Staffordshire which is. If you search for "Brighton" you get a list of Slow Ways in Cornwall

The key bit is that the search excludes all answers bar one

For the Abingdon search I see there is an Abingdon Care Home in Southport.  I suspect it found that.

Charing Cross threw up some doozies.

"Charing" finds places in Kent, England which is fine tbh, google autocomplete has let me get a bit lazy

"Charing Cross" and "charing cross station" and "charing cross london" and "charing cross hospital" and "charing cross scotland" and "charing cross renfrewshire" all find the same 3 towns on the northern coast of Renfrewshire, Scotland. Gourock, Greenock and Port Glasgow (desc. distance from Glasgow). I've googled a little but no clue why.

Good news though, "charing cross glasgow" shows somewhere in Glasgow, and there is indeed a Charing Cross station in Glasgow, although it is about 2km from the search result.  Which is outside Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

    Taking a stand against London-centrism!

Bromley (SE London/Kent) is also deeply problematic. Same as all the others - you simply can't find it. None of the other route, place or Slow Ways suggestions are Slow Ways Settlements and none are remotely relevant (though one is confusing as also in London).

This is an old thread and it's repetitive, but it seems frequent enough to be a big impediment and disincentive to new users.

Hi Daisy and everyone on the thread,

Thanks for your input around the place searches.  I've taken a look today and the earlier ones in this thread seem to now be ok.  Abingdon, Shenstone and Charing Cross.  We recently transferred over where the data is pulled in from so this may have helped.

Bromley is a little different.  Where there are multiple places with the same name up to five options will appear on the left hand side of the screen.  So there must be more than five places called Bromley and so the one in Kent isn't showing.  We are considering if there needs to be more showing and will continue to monitor how many places might be affected by this.  The best way for Bromley, Kent to show would be to search via the first part of the postcode for Bromley which is BR1.  I know that's a bit of a faff but hope it helps in the meantime.

    Best wishes,
    Cristie

Good to know. Thanks Christie and please thank the tech team too.

Just to make things even more fun, Bromley in Kent is actually *in* Greater London not Kent. The postal address is still Kent though, old county boundaries lingering on. Might be helpful if you use it as a test in future.
