Gpx route following
-
I found the same issue but there is a partial solution.
When you first open the gpx route in the OS app, you should have the option to save it. Do that. You can change its name if you want.
Then, the route will be available in the menu under "Routes." When you open a route from here, you will see a screen like the attached picture. You should then see "Follow route" in the bottom right of the screen. Tap on that, then it will show your location as well as the GPX route. Unfortunately when you are following the route like this it does not let you move around the map freely, it snaps back to your location which is a bit annoying. Also, I don't think you can change the map type when following a route. You can also import gpx routes into Google Maps - you have to do that on a computer but it will then be visible on your Google Maps phone app.
By the way, if you go to Preferences in the OS app menu, then go to Route Styling, you can change the colour, thickness and transparency of the gpx route line, which can make it easier to work with.

I found that it was easier to follow it using OpenStreetMap by loading it into the OsmAnd app; obvs this depends on how well the area has been mapped on OSM but round here the detail is generally spectacular (better than OS Explorer in some cases!).

Thanks. I did save the SlowW route and then tapped "follow route" and it showed me where I was on the route that was marked. However if I left that screen on my phone and returned to it the route had disappeared. Is this an OS App problem or a SW problem?

Sounds like a bug with the OS app - I didn't have that problem. Maybe just make sure the app is updated to the latest version.

Thanks. I have fed back to OS, have received acknowledgement and await their substantive reply. I will update this thread when I receive it.

OS Customer Service have at last responded to me saying:
"This is a known issue that we hoped would be addressed in the fix of 3.0.5 but for some users (seems to depend on device) they will need to wait for the next iteration of the app end of May - version 3.1.0 which is a complete overhaul of the route performance and the way it interracts/responds and specifically mentions 'disappearing routes'."
I will further update here after I try 3.1.0 of the OS App
