Proposal: Ash Train station
I live very close to Ash Vale, and have so been looking at the network near me. There are routes like FarAsh, AldAsh, AshBro and so on.... all good, but north/south is weak, compared to east west.
I feel that adding Ash station would be good:
1) It is ON the Guildford/Reading train Line (Ash Vale is on Waterloo line)
2) It opens up neater and more reliable routes to Farnham/Guildford. The two real options are, in broad brushstrokes, either over the ranges (dependent on military needs) or swinging south through Ash. You can still have Ash Vale to Guildford, but Ash Vale to Ash to Guildford is the 'always open' way... and introducing Ash as a node lets you then branch from Ash.
3) By introducing Ash, you can connect Ash direct to Godalming. This gives NorthSouth options that are more direct and don't go east to Guildford just to go south, or west to Farnham just to double back... and have the potential to explore some nice routes through areas like Seale and Puttenham.
Knock on effects: The existing AldGui link would instead link via Ash station (the existing route, AshGui passes close to the station), and this would give the possibility to create routes south from Ash.
Introducing Ash as a node lets you link N/S in the blackwater valley, gives you routes like Aldershot->Ash->Godalming
To argue against myself: A down-side is that FarGui is a nice link - if there were some 'secondary node' that could allow useful links to cross sensibly, that'd be nice.
