24x7 Routes
Following a discussion on Twitter (which has the bigger audience for a quick response). I will be looking at creating two 24x7 routes, one for Beenot and one for Derbor.
My definition of a 24x7 route is one that can be walked at all times of the year and all times of the day. The main criteria is that it is a lit route and not muddy or seasonally obstructed in any way.
Would you have any other requirements for a 24x7 route?

I walked Derbor at the weekend (review / survey to follow), and might I just mention I recorded it as unlit for nearly half the route ? I found the route fine by day but I think there is at least one feature that might make me think twice about wanting to walk it in the dark, which I could expand on if there’s any interest.

Yes, I’d be interested Adrian. (Excellent survey of Belder, btw!)

Thanks Lynn. I think I’d be a bit wary about walking Derbor in the dark, one reason being to do with sharing the path with cycles in the dark, the Derbor route being a national cycle route. I’ve walked it twice (both directions, in daylight) and the path-sharing wasn’t a problem, but I don’t know how I’d feel about sharing the unlit section with bikes at night.
I’ve seen a review (Dermel) suggesting some care might be needed in Alvaston park in Derby, for reasons that the reviewer gives. The overview page of Dermel suggests the route wasn’t verified by that reviewer due to safety concerns. I wonder if this might come into thoughts about “24-hour Derbor”, as Derbor goes through the same park. The walk through that park was fine for me in the daytime but I don’t think I would walk it at night out of choice, even with the path itself lit. If you walk the Derbor route, you might form your own view?

Regarding Dermel I’ve checked with someone familiar with the route and they say that the part in Alveston Park is only about 400 meters long and isn’t a bad part of the walk, so I will look at doing the route in the next couple of weeks.

I’ve added Beenot Three as a demo. This may or may not be to the letter of Slow Ways but I think that it follows the spirit. Please let me know what you think.
