Cowbur, Lockir, Cowkin and Cowkir need new routes (all same issue)
FeaturedPlease would you like to help to suggest better routes for Cowbur, Lockir, Cowkin and Cowkir? They haven't been fully tested but each use a section of dismantled railway which isn't a path.
This request might suit one of the golden eagle volunteers as the routes are in Scotland. Taking a quick look though I think there are roads and footpaths that could be used rather than open access routes.
Here's an image from Cowbur one https://beta.slowways.org/Route/Cowbur/6817 to show where the dismantled railway section is:

Hi Cristie, doesn't look like anyone has touched these. I'm not a Golden Eagle but I've looked at the guidance and had a go anyway. There is indeed a local tweak for problem you highlighted, but also saw that pub/restaurant in Auchtertool closed in 2018, community campaign to open pub or shop but no sign of fruition 4 years later. IMO OS maps can be slow to catch up, might explain route convergence.
More serious problems also found beyond Auchtertool, won't give tedious list but nadir was a lane through an active quarry site. Not great for longevity of Slow Ways network. Or its users. Checked google just in case: local guides route suggestions, online route plans/route reviews (nothing), strava for evidence of use (centre of an extensive empty white space), a few hillbaggers did use it but they are desperate to get up there before it's quarried away and most go up from S or E.
Upshot is I have/will redrawn most of them as the Fife core paths maps look pretty good (street view even shows some signage). I'm fairly hopeful.

I've uploaded a good alternative for Lockir and what I feel is the least-bad/most-good version of Cowbur. Thinking about CowKin and CowKir now.

Daisy, thank you so much for all your research to work these out. You are a star. Great to have better routes to try for Lockir and Cowbur.
Best wishes,

CowKir is done, not many options in that direction so it's just a few small tweaks, but at least it's not actually directing people through a bog.

Thank you Daisy for Cowkin two. Yes, a less boggy option will be much appreciated.
Best wishes,

Good spot, it was Cowkin not Cowkir!

Hi Cristie. CowkiR two is now up.
I've also put up a new version of Cowbur and flagged the old/new Two for safety. There's a dodgy, no-pavement, tight bend on a busy road which I thought was unavoidable but I've since found a locally recommended alternative.
