    Hi Christie,

Here are the ones I know of:

Garmin Basecamp - laptop app, free download from the Garmin site (I use this one).

Viking - laptop app, free download from Sourceforge.net https://sourceforge.net/projects/viking/ (husband uses this one).

Outdooractive - mobile app, currently free but not sure how long this will continue.

Locus Map - mobile app, currently Android only.

Map My Ride - mobile app, primarily used by cyclists but is also used by walkers.

There are others out there, but I know that you can create routes for free on these. I know that you can definitely download/save those gpx routes freely to put into Garmin/Suunto devices are the first two. But you can use the gpx routes in the mobile apps on the walk itself.

PS. If you search YouTube you’ll find people demonstrating each of these apps and showing you how to create routes.

    Hi Lynn,

Thank you so much, that's super helpful.

I've also had a recommendation of Plot a Route https://www.plotaroute.com/ as another option.  Thought I'd add it to the thread for anyone following.

    Best wishes,
    Cristie
