Updating reviews and flagging
COTMEL 1 (Cotgrave to Melton Mowbray) was one of the first routes I reviewed here, and at the time I was probably a little too keen to use the flagging mechanism. These two places are a long way apart and there are no routes between them that do not involve field paths with stiles or very long stretches of road walking, and I updated my review to remove the flag. Mine is still the only review for this route, and the flag is still showing on the site.
This could become a more widespread problem, as I have often seen flags used for what may be temporary issues (path closures, fields without marked path lines, minor diversions), and if the flag creator cannot change their mind, they will continue to look questionable. If the reviewer who raised the issue finds that it is now resolved they should be able to undo the flag.
I also wonder whether we need a "yellow card" flag mechanism that warns users of potential issues without marking the route as unusable - why are "maybe" and "no" treated as identical responses to "is this route suitable"?

Hi Hugh,
This is a great point as quite often I've flagged routes with a maybe because as an admin because I need to share information about the route but not necessarily suggest that it is unsuitable.
I took a look on my account and if you:
- go to your reviews
- find the review you'd like to change the flag on
- click edit
- then change the part under edit recommendation to yes
This should then remove the flag. Please let me know if it doesn't though and I'll look into it further.
Best wishes,

Thanks for the update Cristie. I think my mistake was to assume that all I had to do to remove the flag was to change the answer to "would you recommend this" - I didn't delete the text description associated with the flag. Having done that and saved the review again I think the route is now showing as unflagged.

Thanks Hugh, for doing that. The flag is still there so we might need to do something our side of things. Please can I check that you ticked the yes box as well as deleting your comments? I think you probably had to or it wouldn't have let you delete your comments but thought I'd best check.
Best wishes,

Cristie,
Thanks, I have just had another go at testing this. If I change the flag setting back to No or Maybe, the original flag reason and text reappear, so there is no way I as a user can remove it. In my view as a former software developer, changing the flag to Yes should clear the flag reason and text automatically (perhaps with an are you sure confirmation question).

Hi Hugh,
Thank you so much for getting back to me with details. I'll pass it onto the Team and see what we can do. I agree it feels as though a yes should then clear the flag.
Best wishes,

Just thought I should add a quick update to say that I finally managed to remove my unwanted flag on COTMEL 1 yesterday - this time I was able to clear the text by temporarily changing the status, deleting the text and changing the status back to OK, then saving the review. I am sure I tried all of that back in August but this time it worked.

Hi Hugh,
Thanks so much for sharing the steps and letting us know that it worked. That's excellent news. I'm pretty sure we've been working behind the scenes to fix it but can't check with my colleagues just now.
Best wishes,
Cristie0
