A GPX file is a bit like a Word, PDF or MP3 file, but designed for holding information about routes.
Just like Word documents need to be opened in a word processing application, GPX files need to be opened in a map.
If you want to view a Slow Way on your phone you will need to:
- Install a walking app of your choice
- Download the GPX file to your phone or computer
- Upload the GPX file into the account on your walking app
There are lots of walking and running apps to pick from. Many are free and will not only help you to navigate, but will also help you track where you’ve been and how far you’ve gone.
Here are some walking apps to pick from.

I recently attempted to import two routes onto MapMyWalk and both failed - yet the same files imported to Komoot without issue - others have intimated a struggle with the MapMy series, is there an issue with them anyone is aware of ?
I was going to make the same comment re Map My Walk and ask if others had the same problem. Thank you, I think you’ve just confirmed I’ll ditch MMW and try another app!
